Beverly D. Stakes Betting Guide

The Beverly D. Stakes is one of the biggest races of the season for fillies and mares and takes place annually at Arlington Park. You can find out all about the prestigious race below.

Beverly D. Stakes Event Details

The Beverly D. Stakes will take place on August 9th in 2021. Fillies and mares aged three and older are able to enter the race, and it takes place over the same weekend as the Arlington Million. It is a Grade 1, with a prize purse of $600,000 available. The race is run over 1 3/16 miles and takes place on the turf surface.

Beverly D. Stakes Preview

The race typically attracts star fillies and mares in training. This year’s race will be no different. However, the declarations for the famous Grade 1 will not be made until the first week in August. Below, you will find some of the most recent winners of the Beverly D. Stakes.

  • Sistercharlie (2019, 2018)

  • Dacita (2017)

  • Sea Calisi (2016)

  • Watsdachances (2015)

  • Euro Charlie (2014)

The race wasn’t run in 2020, which means there will be even more intrigue centered around the running in 2021. Trainer Chad Brown has an exceptional recent record in the race, as he has won the last five renewals. Sistercharlie became the only horse to successfully regain the Beverly D. Stakes in 2019 after winning for the first time in 2018. A third effort could be on the cards this season, as she is still in training after finishing sixth in the Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Unlike many other races that are open to horses aged three and older, there isn’t a successful typical age of winners of this race. Four four-year-olds have won the race since 2010, while four five-year-olds and one three-year-old have also claimed success. However, Euro Charlie was the only three-year-old to have won the race.

The Beverly D. Stakes is a race that typically attracts international competitions. Five of the winners since 2011 have been bred outside of the United States. Two British-trained horses have won the race, with Euro Charlie for trainer Marco Botti being the most recent of those. Two Irish-bred horses have won the race, which includes I’m A Dreamer in 2012, who won for trainer David Simcock and was ridden to success by Hayley Turner.

The path to the Beverly D. Stakes is also compelling. Sistercharlie’s first success and Dacita both saw the fillies win the Grade 1 Diana Stakes before lining up for the Grade 1 at Arlington Park. A graded win before lining up for the Beverly D. Stakes is also essential, as all the previous winners found above have won at least a Grade 3 before claiming success in the Grade 1 at Arlington.

Beverly D. Stakes Event Information

The Beverly D. Stakes has been a competitive race on the American calendar since it was introduced in 1987. Despite not being one of the oldest races, it has quickly become one of the most prestigious. One of the reasons for this is because winning runners in this race gain automatic qualification to the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

The distance has changed slightly throughout the history of the race, as it was initially run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles. However, the current distance has been the preferred length of the race since 1989. Meanwhile, the Beverly D. Stakes was given Grade 1 status just four years after being formed.

There have been a number of winners of this race that have gone on to win the American Champion Female Turf Horse. The most recent winner of the race to have achieved that feat is Sistercharlie, who won the prestigious honor in 2018. Other horses to have achieved the feat include Dank (2013), Stacelita (2011), and Hatoof (1994).

Sistercharlie holds a number of records for the Beverly D. Stakes, including the most wins, shortest odds, and record time. Her quickest victory came in 2019, as she crossed the line in a time of 1:52.43. Euro Charlie was the highest-priced winner, as she won at odds of 11/1. Chad Brown holds the record for most wins by a trainer, as he has won on six occasions.
